Columbus Division of Police responded to a shooting in the Linden neighborhood on November 5, 2024.

One man died in a shooting Tuesday on Columbus' northeast side.

The shooting happened just before noon near Linden McKinley High School near the corner of East Blake Avenue and Dresden Street, according to Columbus Division of Police Sgt. James Fuqua.

Police say the victim, who has not been identified, died at the scene. Officials are investigating whether anyone else was injured.

Two canvassers who did not give their names to WOSU said they saw the shooting as they campaigned in the neighborhood for U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown. Both of the canvassers were uninjured.

Fuqua said the shooting does not appear to be related to the election or the canvassers.

A spokesperson for Columbus City Schools said Linden McKinley High School was placed on lockdown.

Staff members were the only people inside the school at the time of the shooting.
