Kimberly Spears-McNatt, Ohio State University's police chief, will retire later this month after 30 years of service.

Spears-McNatt became the department's first female chief in 2018.

She joined the university police department in 1994 after graduating from Ohio State.

She has accepted a new position as associate vice president of public safety at Clemson University in South Carolina.

In a release, Spears-McNatt said, “This is a unique opportunity for me to retire from my current role, while also taking on a new challenge that aligns with my career goals.”

“I will miss Ohio State and all my fellow Buckeyes, but I am also excited to take on this new challenge,” Spears-McNatt said.

An interim police chief will be named before Spears-McNatt's last day, which will be Aug. 26.
