OSHP: Two people dead in Marion County plane crash

Two people died following a plane crash Tuesday in Marion County.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a statement Tuesday that a plane crashed about nine miles southwest of the Marion Municipal Airport in a bean field in Pleasant Township. OHSP said troopers responded to the crash around 11:30 a.m.

In a statement Tuesday evening, OSHP said the plane sustained major damage and the two occupants suffered fatal injuries. OSHP said the identities of the victims are being withheld pending positive identification.

The plane was a Piper Cherokee Six aircraft. This model is a single-engine plane that seats six people.

The crash remains under investigation.
