In an effort to bring listeners more stories from around Ohio, 89.7 NPR News and The Ohio Newsroom are launching a new segment.
It’s called “Today from The Ohio Newsroom” and will air on public radio stations around the state beginning Monday, June 12. 89.7 NPR News listeners can hear it at 5:45 and 7:45 a.m. every weekday.
“The mission is to cover the entirety of Ohio,” said Clare Roth, Managing Editor of the Ohio Newsroom, which will produce the daily segment.
“We already have great public radio stations like WOSU…, but what we don’t have is coverage of small communities that reporters just can’t get to as easily. So that’s what my teams does,” Roth said.
Roth and her team, which includes reporters Kendall Crawford and Erin Gottsacker, hit the ground running this spring and have already been producing stories, including features on rural rent prices, sexual abuse education in Ohio schools, and Ohio farmers seeking the “right to repair.”
“Today from The Ohio Newsroom” will also include lighter stories, including a look at the boom in beekeeping in Ohio and the only remaining washboard manufacturer in the U.S.
“Really its going too introduce you to new neighbors and new stories from all around the state,” Roth said.
