Two Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools buses collided while transporting children to a field trip on May 17, 2023.

Eight students were injured and sent to a local hospital after two school buses collided on I-670 Wednesday morning.

A news release from Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools said the accident occurred at 9:30 a.m. The buses were transporting from students from Middle School West to the Dayton Air Force Museum for a field trip when the crash happened near Joyce Avenue and the I-71 exit.

A district spokesperson said the eight students were taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital out of an abundance of caution after the students were examined by first responders at the scene. All of the children were described as stable by officials.

Officials from the school district said the families of each of the injured students were contacted personally.

The other students who were on the bus at the time of the crash were taken back to school.

The crash remains under investigation.
