Columbus is expanding its youth summer programs to help young people living in the city re-engage after years lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city will use an unspecified amount of American Rescue Plan Act money and general operating funds to support nonprofits that are starting or growing youth programs focused on education, arts, financial literacy, workforce development and more.
“Our young people were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, and we, as a community, have an obligation to support them with restorative investments,” said City of Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther.
Nonprofits can apply for funding until noon on April 18. Programs will be considered if they improve work readiness, reduce violent incidents, provide academic enrichment or encourage youth to continue their education or find employment.
The Recreation and Parks Department, Department of Neighborhoods and Columbus City Council will determine which organizations will receive funding.
