It's up to a federal judge in Columbus to decide if the murder case facing retired Franklin County sheriff's deputy Jason Meade should be moved to federal court.

Lawyers on both sides made their arguments Friday.

Meade was charged with murder and reckless homicide last year in the fatal December 2020 shooting of Casey Goodson Jr.

Meade's attorneys contend that as a deputized member of a U.S. Marshals Service task force, Meade was operating as a federal agent at the time of the shooting.

Prosecutors argued at Friday's hearing that Meade was at all times a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy acting on his own after his task force shift ended.

Meade has pleaded not guilty in state court.
