On a day that 24 Columbus City Schools were scheduled to operate remotely, the district has instead canceled all classes Friday because of transportation issues.
"Due to an increased number of transportation absences, all classes will be cancelled today, Friday, January 7. There will be no remote learning or in-person classes, today. All athletic and extracurricular activities are also cancelled," reads an email sent to parents and district employees Friday morning.
Staffing shortages forced the district to move a growing number of schools to remote learning this week. The number of buildings closed grew from seven on Wednesday to 17 on Thursday and was set to go to 24 Friday before the district declared a calamity day.
Several other Central Ohio districts have also have to shift schedules this week, including schools in Reynoldsburg, Dublin, Westerville and Marion.
