A 12-year-old boy is dead after police say he inadvertantly shot himself while mishandling a gun inside a Hilltop home Monday evening.
Police say Demitri Lifte Gore died at the scene inside a Warren Avenue home on Columbus' West side.
“Initial investigation and witness accounts point to a situation where the victim was fatally wounded by the unsafe handling of a loaded firearm,” a police release said. “Exactly how the shooting occurred, who was involved and how the firearm was obtained is still all under investigation.”
Police say "there is no evidence or indication that this incident is anything more than an unfortunate tragedy,” but an investigation will continue.
