Y’all ready for this? The 2020 NPR Tiny Desk Contest is now open for submissions! And this year, WOSU wants to see more Ohio bands enter than ever before.
Thousands of musicians from around the country will enter NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Contest this year for the opportunity to play a Tiny Desk concert at NPR headquarters in Washington, D.C., and tour the United States.
The contest is open from February 11-March 30, 2020.
Here are the rules:
- You must be 18 years or older, and without a current recording contract. (Check to see if you are eligible to enter.)
- You must film a video performing an original song.
- You must perform that song at a desk – any desk.
- Upload your video to YouTube, and submit your entry to the Tiny Desk Contest website.
One national winner will be chosen by NPR’s panel of judges. Previous winners include https://youtu.be/xoFlHMG6Wfo">Quinn Christopherson, https://youtu.be/nk8HEO_60ms">Naia Izumi, https://youtu.be/0zU-Jm87kzY">Tank And The Bangas, https://youtu.be/jb1oCjiIu9M">Gaelynn Lea and https://youtu.be/7kWEhIXVPJA">Fantastic Negrito.
But that’s not all. WOSU wants some extra encouragement for Central Ohio musicians to enter the contest, so we’ll be picking our top Columbus-area band from among all the Tiny Desk submissions.
WOSU’s local favorite will be invited to perform their submitted song as part of our televised local music series Broad & High Presents, interviewed during 89.7 NPR News’ All Things Considered program, profiled on the WOSU website, and more!
The band will be chosen by last year’s pick Zoo Trippin’, plus representatives from across WOSU’s television, radio and digital divisions. You can watch Zoo Trippin's interview and performance here.
So what are you waiting for? Get recording!
Oh and when you finish filming, tag @WOSU and @BroadAndHigh on Twitter with your videos! Use the hashtag #TinyDeskContest. We can’t wait to watch.
