The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office says a woman is behind bars after setting fire to the county courthouse early Tuesday morning.

Deputies say they saw smoke and fire coming from a courthouse window in downtown Logan around 12:30 a.m. Deputies say when they confronted Miranda McCormick in the parking lot, she pulled a knife and ran to a nearby apartment.

After barging inside, deputies say they extinguished another fire before discovering an improvised explosive device and more bomb-making materials.

The sheriff’s office says the courthouse fire caused about $30,000 in damage and the response led two local schools to cancel classes today.

McCormick faces felony aggravated arson charges and the sheriff’s office says more charges are expected.
