Due to frigid temperatures in Central Ohio today, Columbus city officials have canceled the annual parade in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.

A celebration with speakers and a reception will take place this afternoon at East High School at 1500 E. Broad Street.

The program will feature orations from the first and second place winners of the annual MLK Youth Oratorical Contest.

The keynote speaker is Reverend Marissa Farrow of Baltimore.  Her message as outlined in a city press release is to, “inspire all people to embody the principles of social justice and equity, which were the bedrock of Dr. King’s ministry.”

The doors at East High School open at 4 p.m.  The program starts at 5:30 p.m.
