Columbus City Council has chosen 15 finalists to fill two upcoming council vacancies.
Beginning early next week, Council will hold special meetings to interview the candidates. It will also host a public meeting before the appointment is finalized, as required by a recent city charter amendment.
Council received 56 applications for the two vacancies. The 15 applicants chosen for interviews are:
- Nicholas J. Bankston, director of community affairs for the office of Mayor Andrew Ginther
- Lourdes Barroso De Padilla, director of the Latina Mentoring Academy
- Stefanie Lynn Coe, MPW Industrial Services general counsel and Columbus Civil Service commissioner
- Nancy Day-Achauer, United Methodist Church pastor and community activist
- Rob Dorans, Columbus Recreation and Parks commissioner
- Albert Edmonson, barbershop owner and community activist
- Shayla D. Favor, Assistant City Attorney
- Catherine A. Girves, executive director of Yay Bikes!
- Chenelle Jones, Public Safety Programs chair at Franklin University
- Marco Miller
- Michelle Moskowitz Brown, executive director of Local Matters
- Rick Neal, former U.S. House candidate
- Ramona Reyes, Columbus City Schools Board member
- Sam Shim, Worthington School Board vice president and FCBank board member
- Erin Synk, South Side Area Commissioner-at-large
The two chosen members will take the places of Jaiza Page and Michael Stinziano, who won elections in November as a judge for the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas and Franklin County Auditor, respectively.
Interviews are scheduled at Council chambers on December 10 and 11, and will pick up again on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019. A public hearing on Page’s vacancy is scheduled for January 10.
