Union County Jail Escapees Remain At Large

The search continues for two men who escaped from a jail in Union County over the weekend.

The Union County Sheriff's Office says Joshua Hammond and Cody Ray ran through an open door and climbed a 12-foot fence Saturday at the West Central Community Correctional Facility on state Route 4 north of Marysville.

The sheriff's offices says the men were spotted running into a nearby corn field and deputies were on the scene within two minutes, but both men remained at large late Sunday night.

Hammond, 28, is a Columbus resident was jailed at West Central in August for a probation violation after an original charge of drug possession. Ray, a 27-year-old West Mansfield resident, was jailed last month for a probation violation after an original charge of grand theft.

West Central is a 144-bed facility serving Champaign, Clark, Delaware, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow, and Union counties. The jail is one of Ohio’s Community Based Correctional Facilities, which focus on treatment and serve as a prison alternative for non-violent male and female felony offenders.
