The injured workers were driving two trucks as part of overnight paving work.

Two Ohio Department of Transportation workers were hospitalized but are expected to survive after being hit on Interstate 71 near Orient early Tuesday morning.ODOT spokeswoman Nancy Burton says the two were helping with overnight paving on I-71 North near Young Road when they were hit by a tractor trailer that entered the work zone.

Burton says the two injured workers were driving trucks, one to collect construction barrels and the other to guard workers, when they were by the semi-truck.

“There were workers in the road. They ran into the grass in the berm,” Burton says.

The crash closed the northbound lanes of I-71 between U.S. Routes 62 and 665 for about two hours and reopened just before 7 a.m.
