The Cleveland Browns have fired top executive Sashi Brown, the man responsible for choosing their players in recent years, but are keeping coach Hue Jackson for another season despite a 1-27 record.
Brown was named the team's top executive by owners Dee and Jimmy Haslam during an overhaul following the 2015 season. He was relieved of his duties on Thursday.
Owner Jimmy Haslam said in a statement that the team "is going in a new direction."
“We have great appreciation and gratitude for Sashi’s commitment and leadership to our organization but believe transitioning to someone with strong experience and success in drafting and building consistently winning football teams is critical to the future of the Cleveland Browns,” Haslam said.
Haslam announced that the Browns will keep on Hue Jackson as coach for the 2018 season.
Jackson has reportedly had disagreements with the moves Brown made in picking players. Brown notably passed on quarterbacks Carson Wentz, who is now leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a probable playoff spot, and Deshaun Watson, who now plays for the Houston Texans.
Meanwhile, the Browns are currently 0-12 this year, after last season's franchise-worst finish of 1-15.
