Just a day after a Central Ohio Republican dropped her bid to become Ohio’s next Secretary of State, another is ending his bid to be the state’s treasurer.
Franklin County Auditor Clarence Mingo wrote on Facebook Tuesday that, "despite personal resolve and your tireless support, time and resources will not allow the momentum needed to continue forward movement successfully."
Mingo, who was a vocal critic of President Trump during the 2016 campaign, says he will now focus on running for re-election in his current post.
His Republican primary opponent, Rep. Robert Sprague, had raised significantly more money, and Mingo said Sprague has earned the right to represent the GOP. Mingo also promised to work for Sprague’s election.
Sprague will likely face Democratic attorney Rob Richardson Jr. of Cincinnati in the general election next fall.
On Monday, Republican Rep. Dorothy Pelanda of Marysville said she was dropping out of the race for Secretary of State.
