Passengers on more than 300 COTA buses have access to free Wi-Fi, effective immediately.

COTA public and media relations manager Lisa Myers says the agency's been planning the change for months, at customer's behest.

"We did a test earlier this year on our CBUS and our AirConnect buses, and once we realized that it was working well, we went ahead throughout the month of August and installed it on all of our buses," Myers says.

The change to COTA's fixed-route buses will cost the company about $125,000 dollars a year to implement. Data is unlimited and unthrottled, meaning no matter how many people use the service in a given month, its speed won't be affected.

"All you have to do is get on the bus and connect to our COTA passenger Wi-Fi network," Myers says. "You have the option to register if you'd like to, but you don't have to. You just check the terms and conditions and you are on your way to utilizing the free Wi-Fi."

Wi-Fi is also available outside of COTA's office at 33 N. High St., COTA Transit Terminals in Downtown, the COTA Spring Street Terminal, and the COTA shelter at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport on the Arrivals level.
