About 200 people marched from the Oval to the Ohio State University student union on Sunday as part on event organizers dubbed Columbus United Against Hate.
Organizers say the rally was meant to show solidarity with peaceful protesters who showed up at a Berkeley, California rally organizers by right-wing groups.
“We have a broad coalition and a diverse coalition of supporters who are willing to stand up to white supremacy, racism of all kinds, and that’s something that as a Central Ohio community here in Columbus we can all do together and united,” organizer Marshall Troxell told WBNS.
Activists say they chose a college campus for the Sunday rally because of the recent rally by white nationalists at the University of Virginia.
Organizers say about 40 local groups took part in the Columbus rally, and similar rallies were hosted in other U.S. cities on Sunday.
