Former Ohio State University football player Anthony Gonzalez is considering a run for Congress.

The former Buckeye and Indianapolis Colts wide receiver recently met with the National Republican Congressional Committee to express interest in a bid for Ohio's 16th Congressional District. His decision is expected soon.

The district stretches from Wayne County into portions of five northeast Ohio counties, including Cuyahoga, Gonzalez' home county.

The 16th district is currently represented by Jim Renacci. The Tea Party favorite is foregoing reelection as he seeks the GOP nomination in the race for Ohio governor next year.

Gonzalez was an all-conference player for the Ohio State team that played for a national championship in 2007. He was also an academic All-American who’s transitioned into a business career since retiring from the NFL in 2012.

Gonzalez earned his MBA from Stanford in 2014, and recently left his job as chief operating officer of Chalk Schools, an education technology firm in San Francisco.
