A man who arrived by ambulance at Westerville’s Mount Carmel Saint Ann’s Hospital was shot and killed by a Columbus Police officer Thursday.
Police say the shooting happened after an altercation between the officer and the person being transported. According to the Associated Press, the man was experiencing psychological problems and medics in Westerville asked police to escort them.
The man apparently pulled a BB gun out of a bag after seeing the officer, and the officer fired after refusing repeated requests to get on the ground.
The man who was shot, who was not immediately identified, died at around 2 p.m.
The Mount Carmel Health System says the individual was not a patient, and no one else was injured.
