A suspect who allegedly showed a gun while confronting a student at the Columbus State campus Wednesday was arrested early this morning at a hotel in Dublin.
Columbus State Police Chief Sean Asbury says 18-year-old Deandre McClarin made his escape after the incident inside one of the campus buildings. He ended up at a Dublin hotel where authorities caught up to him.
“We located him and we didn’t have any complications," Asbury said. "We made contact with him took into custody and transported him down to the Franklin County jail without any problems at all."
Asbury says authorities from several local and federal agencies assisted in the investigation. Some of them used social media to find a picture of the suspect that looked similar to a campus video. Chief Asbury says one of the witnesses identified McClarin.
Asbury says McClarin is a Delaware County resident, and is not a Columbus State student.
The Columbus State campus closed Wednesday after the incident, but reopened Thursday.
