Interim Allen County Sheriff Dies From Sudden Illness

Allen County Sheriff's Office

The interim sheriff in Lima’s Allen County has died. The death of Jimmy Everett comes less than a week after he was appointed.

Officials in Allen County say Everett died Tuesday after a sudden illness.  He was 62 years old.

Everett was a deputy in the sheriff's office for four decades before being appointed to take over for former sheriff Sam Crish last week.

Crish resigned amid an investigation into a series of personal and legal problems and after his acknowledgement that he had received treatment for a gambling addiction.

Everett worked nearly every job in the sheriff's office as a deputy, and before that served as mayor of the village of Cairo.

Allen County commissioners met Wednesday morning to name Lt. Matt Treglia the interim sheriff.
