President Drake reveals new plans for the OSU campus

On Thursday afternoon, Ohio State University President Michael Drake revealed the latest framework - and a lot of illustrated ideas - for redeveloping the school's campus over the next 20 years.

The new plans were developed with architecture firm Ayers Saint Gross, and cost $1.1 million to commission. Illustrated renderings depict the construction of new facilities across the entire campus.

Areas surrounding 15th Avenue and High Street and the areas along the Olentangy River could see the most transformation.

While these plans are still being fine tuned, President Drake expects classroom space to grow by 26 percent and research space to grow by 12 percent.

"All of this aligns with our work to provide access to an affordable and excellent education while fostering greater community engagement and inclusiveness," Drake said.

Plans also include the addition of more green space and less surface parking that would be replaced by parking structures.

Drake says plans included feedback from students, staff and faculty.

"Our objective has been to asses current opportunities and challenges and to gather input on this critical next step," said Drake.
