Brown Says He'll Oppose Sessions' Nomination For A.G.

Ohio's Democratic U.S. Senator says he will oppose Donald Trump's choice for U.S. attorney general.

Sen. Sherrod Brown says he met with Alabama U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions this week and discussed Sessions’ positions on civil rights issues.

Sessions has been dogged by allegations of racism during his time as a prosecutor in Alabama, but he’s denied those claims and instead pointed to some cases promoting civil rights.

Still, Senator Brown says he has serious issues with Sessions’ record. Brown says he also pressed Sessions on the need to improve police-community relations, and to support the Justice Department’s consent decree for police reforms in Cleveland.

Sessions was denied a federal judgeship in the 1980s, but is expected to have enough support from the Republican-controlled Judiciary Committee to get confirmed.
