President-elect Donald Trump visited the Ohio State University on Thursday afternoon to meet with victims and law enforcement involved in the November 28 attack.
After he met victims of the car and knife attack, Trump said they and their families were brave and praised the performance of first responders and police.
Trump mentioned in particular Ohio State officer Alan Horujko, who fatally shot OSU student Abdul Artan just moments after Artan began his attack, which hospitalized 11 people.
"The job done in particular by one young gentlemen was incredible," Trump said. "I got to meet him and he's very brave."
Dozens of Ohio State students gathered to protest the Trump's visit at the Schottenstein Center. Senior Leila Elaqad came to the protest carrying a sign that read, "Refugees welcome. Fascism out."
Elaqad said she believes Trump was trying to politicize the recent tragedy.
"And using it to fuel xenophobic hatred," Elaqad said. "I think that's why a lot of [protestors] were out there."
The meeting between Trump and the attack victims was not open to the public or the media. It is not known how many of the victims agreed to meet with Trump and what was discussed.
