Deadline Extended For Ohio Homeowners To Get Discounted Refinancing

The federal government has extended the deadline for Ohio homeowners to apply for a home refinancing program set up to help those hurt by the foreclosure crisis.

The deadline for the Home Affordable Refinance Program, or HARP, is now Sept. 30, 2017. The program is available to homeowners who have little to no equity in their homes, or who owe more than their home is worth.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency is turning to social media to raise awareness and promote the deadline extension.

About 27,000 Ohioans are still eligible for the program that was set up in 2009.

A HARP refinancing can save about $1,500 a year.
