Federal authorities say they are pushing hard in Ohio's battle against heroin.
Acting U.S. Attorney Benjamin Glassman of Ohio's southern district, FBI Cincinnati head Angela Byers, and other officials said Friday they have charged 96 people in heroin trafficking cases in the past year, including charging two people with providing the heroin that caused a death. Glassman says 38 people have been convicted so far, with most of the cases still pending in courts.
He says with fatal overdoses continuing to occur about once every two days, the authorities aren't claiming victory. But Glassman says they are reaffirming their commitment to fighting the opioid problem in southwestern Ohio with enforcement, prevention and treatment.
Glassman provided the update after a panel discussion with Fairmont High School students in Kettering.
