Auditors in Ohio say a transport company owes the state $486,000 for improper reimbursements made for transporting Medicaid patients.
State Auditor Dave Yost released the report Tuesday saying Angel Carriers was overpaid from July 2011 through June 2014.
Officials say that when auditors initially contacted the Mahoning County company, they were told the records supporting the reimbursements had been destroyed in a fire. But auditors determined a fire hadn't occurred at the office where the records were kept.
Yost says the company employed drivers who didn't complete required alcohol tests and background checks. The state also says 10 of the company's 20 drivers failed to get required first aid and CPR certifications.
The Vindicator in Youngstown reports the company's owner says Angel Carriers is disputing the state's accusation.
