Donald Trump is complaining that a fire marshal capped attendance at his Monday rally in Columbus for political reasons, while city officials say they were following the law.
Trump, the Republican nominee, told reporters before his event at the Greater Columbus Convention Center that it’s “a disgrace” that more people were not allowed to attend.
He added that the move is “for purely political reasons they were turned away.”
He said officials capped attendance at 1,000 people and that several thousand more people were unjustly denied entry.
“That’s politics at its lowest,” he said.
City public safety officials say Trump’s campaign knew about a 1,000-person capacity limit several days before the event.

Several hundred people snaked around the block at the cavernous Greater Columbus Convention Center at the slated 3:00 p.m. start time.
Trump’s remarks came just three days after he made similar complaints about a fire marshal in Colorado Springs.
