Deputy In High-Speed Fatal Crash Won't Face Criminal Charges

A Franklin County sheriff's deputy won't face criminal charges in an on-duty crash that killed a 77-year-old man in Columbus.

City and county prosecutors didn't find evidence to support criminal charges against Deputy Brian Fritz in the July 2015 crash that killed Nyal Brown.

Authorities say Fritz was traveling at speeds near 100 mph to assist an officer pursing a suspected drunken driver when he collided with Brown's van. Brown was ejected from the van and died at the scene. Officials say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Officials are conducting an internal review to determine whether the 14-year department veteran violated any policies.
