The Ohio Department of Health says the flu is now widespread across the state.
Health officials say the number of people hospitalized for the flu took a big jump last week. There were 203 confirmed new cases last week. That compares with 93 the week before.
Health officials say the flu has gotten off to a slow start since last October. So far, just over 650 people have been diagnosed with the flu. Last year there were nearly 8,000 confirmed flu cases. But they say, last year, the vaccine was not well matched to the circulating virus.
Health officials say flu season is expected to continue for several weeks.
Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Mary DiOrio says vaccines are still available.
