Police have identified 30-year old Mohamed Barry as the man who they say randomly attacked people at a northeast Columbus restaurant with a machete.
Police say Barry stormed into the Nazareth Restaurant and deli on North Hamilton Road on Thursday evening and started attacking people. Four patrons were taken to an area hospital with injuries. Police have identified the victims as 54-year old William Foley who is in critical but stable condition; 43-year old Neil McMeekin who was treated and released; 43-year old Gerald Russell and 43-year old Debbie Russell. Police say both Russells are in stable condition.
Barry fled the scene in a car and led police on a short chase. Police say they tried unsuccessfully to use a stun gun on him. When Barry lunged at officers with the machete in one hand and a knife in the other, they say an officer shot him.
It's unclear what sparked the attacks. The investigation is ongoing.
