Police in Cincinnati have announced a new strategy that will focus on geographic areas of the city where gangs and groups are behind the gun violence authorities are trying to reduce.

WLWT-TV reports the plan was presented Monday by Chief Eliot Isaac, who says that the place-based investigation of violent offender territories is a data-driven approach that spans the city.

The department says it has identified chronically violent locations with known gang territories using analytics. Components of the initiative include identifying long-standing violent locations, investigating networks of contributing factors, and monitoring and sustaining crime reduction by building victim, resident and business resiliency.

City Manager Harry Black says in a memo that these troublesome places tend to remain problems unless the city intervenes.
