Columbus Fire officials report an 83 year old man died this morning in a house fire on the city's south side.
The fire happened at the man's home in the 500 block of Elwood Avenue near Groveport Road.
A neighbor who officials describe as the victim's caregiver called the fire department and tried to rescue the man. Battalion Chief Tracy Smith explains.
“They had made a couple of attempts to try and get in and help him, but the fire was too extensive for them to get in and pull him out," said Smith.
Smith says the fire does not appear to be suspicious, but remains under investigation. The man's name has not yet been released.
