Ohio State University said students and staff should be aware of potential violence on campus, Tuesday. OSU learned, Monday night, of an anonymous online violent threat.
The university has confirmed details about the threat, including the origin of the threat. The threat was made in an text-based online game, in the chat section of the game.
The threat was made in a language called Esperanto, and was translated by users, before alerting OSU Police.
"If you live in the Ohio State University, I warn you. October 27 at 15 hours, I will kill students and teachers with guns. I have guns and explosives in my room, which I will use."
The university said OSU Police is taking the threat seriously and is continuing to aggressively investigate with the assistance of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
"The safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors is our number one priority," the university wrote in an email.
OSU said suspicious behavior should be reported to campus police at 614-292-2121 or by calling 911. The university remains open and classes are proceeding as usual.
A similar threat to the university was made in an online game in April 2013, threatening explosives in the cafeterias at Ohio State. No arrests were made then, and no explosives were found.
