Mayoral Candidate Andrew Ginther Calls For Police Body Camera

Columbus democratic mayoral candidate Andrew Ginther says he wants to roll out police body cameras in 2016.

Ginther has asked the police chief and public safety director to outline regulations for the cameras by the end of the year.

"With clear policies, procedures for the use of these. Recommendations on resources that we might be able to tap into at the state and federal level. Any state law changes that might be necessary to deal with privacy," Ginther said.

Fraternal of Police president Jason Pappas opposes body cameras. Pappas says he does not think the cameras will better protect citizens or officers.

Columbus Police Department of Technology estimates the startup cost to be between three and seven million dollars.
