Ohio Senate Leader: Traffic Cameras Need Regulation

The Ohio Senate's leader says many in his Republican majority believe traffic cameras should be regulated and the issue could see action before the end of the year. Senate President Keith Faber told reporters Wednesday night that members are still debating their options. He declined to say which way they were leaning in terms of possible restrictions. Faber's comments come as the Ohio Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments next week in a driver's lawsuit against Toledo's cameras. Faber, a Celina Republican, said he believed certain cameras were effective, though he said he thought most residents were concerned as to whether the cameras were there for safety purposes and not to generate revenue. The state Legislature started its summer break Thursday, with plans to return in the fall.
