Fans in the Cleveland area set fire to LeBron James' No. 23 jerseys and threw rocks at a his 10-story mural after the superstar announced he was leaving the Cavaliers for the Miami Heat.
Moments after the announcement on ESPN, fans poured out of downtown and suburban restaurants and bars.
At a bar across from the Cavs' Quicken Loans Arena, some fans sat quietly stunned, while others cried out in disbelief. Earl Mauldin of Cleveland says the announcement was "very arrogant" and that James' was wrong to go on national TV "and spit in our face."
At a bar in Berea, near the Cleveland Browns' training camp, Fred Sczerpak of Berea called James a "loser" who "turned his back on us."
The disappointment came after fans across northeast Ohio spent weeks in various campaigns to keep James in Cleveland.
