Another Ohio Agency Reports Data Theft

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation says a laptop has been stolen from an employee's home. It's the second data theft involving a state employee reported this month.

The laptop was stolen May 30th from the home of the agency's auditor but wasn't announced until today. The laptop contained Social Security numbers on 439 Ohio injured workers.

The data was password protected, but as a precaution the injured workers are being offered free identity protection services.

Governor Strickland said earlier this month that a separate electronic device had been stolen from an intern's unlocked car that contained personal information on state employees and the names and Social Security numbers of 225,000 taxpayers.
