Winter weather is on its way to Central Ohio. The Ohio Highway Patrol is encouraging drivers to get ready for winter conditions.
Ohio Highway Patrol Lieutenant Rick Zwayer has put together a list of safe winter driving tips and much of the advice involves preparation. He says drivers should make sure their brakes are in good condition, check their tires to make sure they have enough tread, check fluids like oil, anti freeze and windshield wiper fluid and keep a winter car kit in the trunk. That includes things like blankets, food, jumper cables, roadway reflectors, a flashlight and first aid kit.
As Lieutenant Zwayer drives his cruiser out of the parking and onto interstate 70 he explains that as winter sets in officers will be on the lookout for unsafe drivers that is people following too close or driving too fast for the conditions.
Sometimes when the conditions are really bad, Zwayer says the best thing to do, is just stay home.
