The suspect in a series of highway shootings in central Ohio afternoon appeared in court to answer murder and other charges.
Charles McCoy Jr.stood and said nothing as his attorneys entered a plea of not guilty for him.
McCoy faces a 24-count indictment which includes one charge of murder and several counts of attempted murder in connection with 12 shootings along or near Columbus area highways.
McCoy's family says he is paranoid schizophrenic and he could have pleaded not guity by reason of insanity.
After the hearing McCoy's attorney, Michael Miller said an insanity defense is still a possibility. He said the defense team will make a decision after it reviews 8 years of mccoy's phychiatric records.
"We've got a lot of records that we want to see that we don't have yet that have existed for quite a few years and we just don't have them in yet. and we'll look at those and act accordingly", Miller said.
McCoy could face the death penalty if convicted. His defense attorneys said they still may ask for a change in venue because of extensive media exposure.
