Clarett pleads guilty to reduced charge

Suspended Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett has pleaded guilty to a minor misdemeanor charge and has been fined $100.

Clarett's plea to the charge of failure to aid a law enforcement officer will result in no jail time and won't go on a criminal record. The plea deal ends the city's investigation into whether he falsified a police report.

Clarett was accused of filing a campus police report that exaggerated the value of items stolen from a dealership car he borrowed in April.

Had he been convicted on original falsification charge, Clarett could have faced a penalty ranging from probation to six months in jail and up to A $1,000 fine.

Clarett answered "yes" and "no" to the judge's questions, but did not otherwise speak at the hearing Wednesday morning in Franklin County Municipal Court.
