Ohio State coach Jim Tressel says he's ready to let Maurice Clarett leave the Buckeyes if that's what Clarett wants to do.
Tressel told reporters today that he would recommend Clarett be released from his scholarship if the player wanted to transfer to another school.
His comments come the same day Clarett was charged with falsifying an April police report in which he claimed thousands of dollars in merchandise was stolen from a car he was driving.
The first-degree misdemeanor was filed this afternoon in Franklin County Municipal Court and carries a possible penalty of six months in jail and a one-thousand dollar fine.
Ohio State athletic director Andy Geiger says university officials expected Clarett to be charged but were unsure of the timing.
Clarett is on indefinite suspension from the team for misleading investigators looking into his financial and academic eligibility.
