Columbus Jazz Orchestra Series Featured in June Broadcasts

COLUMBUS, OHIO, MAY 20, 2013 ”Columbus Jazz Orchestra’s 2012-2013 concert series, “Swingin’ with the CJO”, will be featured Friday nights in June at 7 p.m. on 89.7 NPR News.
Beginning June 7 and broadcasting through the end of the month, listeners can wrap up the workweek with jazz classics performed by nationally renowned artists and well-known local musicians. Here is the overview of programming:
Friday, June 7 – “Come Together” highlights compositions by George Gershwin, and John Lennon and Paul McCartney. The performance features jazz pianist Gerald Clayton, and Jonathan Elliott and Theo Perry of the Floorwalkers.
Friday, June 14 – “Ragtime, Blues and Beyond: A Short History of Jazz” spotlights classics from the ragtime, blues and jazz genres and features saxophonist Tia Fuller and drummer Lewis Nash.
Friday, June 21 – “Big Band on Broadway” showcases compositions by Leonard Bernstein and Count Basie. Debbie Gravitte sings fan favorites from hit Broadway shows.
Friday, June 28 – “Piano Men: The Music of Billy Joel, Elton John & Stevie Wonder,” with Chester Gregory on vocals and Dave Powers on piano recreating the hits of these masters of the keyboard.
The flagship performing ensemble of the Jazz Arts Group, the Columbus Jazz Orchestra consists of musicians who are highly regarded as performers and educators across the country and around the globe. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Byron Stripling, the CJO presents over 20 subscription concerts each season in Columbus.
