Starting Monday, Olentangy students are no longer required to wear masks in classrooms.
Olentangy Local School District Superintendent Mark Raiff told the board last week that he was rescinding the requirement for masks in classes, but students will still be required to mask up on buses because of a federal order.
That January 29, 2021 order from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requires masks on anyone using public transportation.
Around the state, 71.4% of schools districts don't have a mask
requirement, according to data from the Ohio Department of Health as of Feb. 10. Masks are required for all students in 25.9% of the state's school districts and are only required for some students in 2.6% of school districts.
Late last year, Ohio’s major hospital systems asked school superintendents, administrators and board members to impose mask mandates for kids coming back to class in January.
