The Columbus Public Health Department is asking Columbus City Council to revoke its mask mandate.
In a statement emailed Wednesday afternoon, the department says it wants the city to follow CDC and Ohio Department of Health guidelines. The CDC has stated that people who are vaccinated can go without masks outdoors and in most indoor settings.
Columbus Public Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika Roberts is reminding those unvaccinated should continue to wear masks and everyone should get their shots.
Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced on Monday, vaccinated people in Ohio will no longer need to wear masks except for certain situations as long as they have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the revised state health order, everyone must continue to wear masks in certain places, including:
- Hospitals, health care settings
- Public transportation
- Businesses, employers that continue the requirement
- Congregate care settings
- Schools and daycares
- Places where a large number of people are not vaccinated
