Learning Resources for Pk-12

Drawing with Mr. JWOSU Classroom has curated resources, lessons, and activities that teachers and parents may use for learning at home.

PBS Learning Media  (Pk-12)
As teachers, students, and families deal with school closures, PBS LearningMedia producers and educators have come together to curate a special collection of resources organized by grade and subject area. Find videos, lesson plans, and activities that support learning at home. Create a free account to save and organize content. Featured lesson plans in this collection contain full contextualization for the media they include. Plan and adapt our lessons in creative ways, using the Lesson Builder tool, Google Classroom, Remind, and more.  PBS LearningMedia also provides PreK-12 resources for emergency closings.

Drawing with Mr. J (Pk-5)
Drawing with Mr. J is a new video series from WOSU Classroom that helps kids in grades K–5 learn social and emotional skills through brief but engaging drawing challenges. All you need is something to draw with and something to draw on! Each video comes complete with a standards-aligned companion guide containing activities and resources for educators and parents. The videos can be worked into a variety of lesson plans, be used as a morning warm-up or a way to check-in with students after lunch or other transition times.

WOSU Resources
Over the years WOSU has produced timeless, educational lesson plans you can use in your classroom. For many of these lessons and guides, there are supplemental PDF’s, lesson plans and assessment tools.  You may also review tips on low-tech options for making distance learning a little easier for you, your students, and their families. Included are some ideas for how to keep a sense of community amongst separated students, ways to check-in on their emotions, and stay connected.

Having to move to an online teaching model quickly can be overwhelming. WOSU Classroom has partnered with the Ohio Ed Techs to create a collection of videos for educators to access to support this new model. These resources are free for anyone to access at ohioedtechs.org. Educators can also complete a form and receive a certificate of attendance (free!) to submit to their local LPDC.

On My Way To K

WOSU has partnered with member station WUCF in Florida to bring you the On My Way To K Toolkit and weekly activity calendars to help get your little ones ready for school! These fun and engaging calendars are packed with enrichment activities that take just 15-20 minutes to complete and will help your child get ready for kindergarten. Each week includes short videos, interactive games, and some hands-on exploration!

How to Use:

  1. Review activities for the week and gather your materials (listed in the handout).
  2. Set aside 15-20 minutes of learning time each day.
  3. Do the daily activity with your child (use accompanying discussion questions and vocabulary)
  4. Have FUN!

The On My Way to K with PBS Activity Calendar aligns to early childhood standards and complements our On My Way to K Toolkit, but can also be used on its own. The resource provides a whole child approach, understanding that learning is more than cognitive, and includes opportunities for critical thinking, social, emotional, emotional, physical, arts, communication, and collaborative growth.
