WOSU Classroom offers classes for educators wishing to extend their knowledge and experience with technology integration. These classes are suitable for educators of all grade levels and subject areas. Contact hours are awarded for each class at no additional fee; graduate credit is offered, as well. Contact hours are equal to the run-time of the class, minus 30 minutes for lunch.

Please bring a laptop (preferred) or tablet to all classes.

Online registration closes two weeks prior to the start of class; please call to register after that time (614-292-9678).

Cancellations received two weeks prior to the class start date are eligible for a full refund, minus a $25 processing fee.

All face-to-face courses will be held at the Fawcett Event Center [map] unless otherwise specified. Class participants must pay for parking at the kiosk in the center of the parking lot. The fee is $2.25/hour.

TransFORM Your Class with Google

This course will cover everything you need to know to effectively use Google Forms in your classroom. Starting with the basics, learn how to add questions, insert images/videos, and create sections within Forms. From auto-grading quizzes and surveys to creating rubrics and short stories, this course explores several conventional (and unconventional) uses of Google Forms.

Podcasting

Podcasting has become an increasingly popular form of storytelling and communication in today’s digital age. In this course, we will look at the benefits of podcasting and then we will help develop a plan for a podcast from scriptwriting to audio tools for recording. Finally, we will share resources of different platforms for publishing your podcast.

Organizing Your Teacher Life with Google Tools

This class explores apps such as Trello, Google Keep, Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Calendar. Learn the basics of using each of these communicating and organizing apps efficiently as well as useful tips and tricks that will have you set for the year!

Teachers oftentimes come across information on the web that they want to share with their students. Come explore the awesome extensions that can make your teacher life more efficient. Writing Process Designs and Templates

Supporting writers is challenging work. See how Google Drawings and Slides build scaffolds for struggling writers to find their point of view, sparking ideas with purpose and focus. Differentiated learning designs utilizing graphic organizers will engage writers in a process of wonder and revision. Content built with Google apps makes thinking visible to emphasize deeper learning. A stream of ideas and products are seamlessly shared into Google Classroom.

The Art of Guided Note-Taking

Students often struggle to organize, clarify and actively connect the dots in their notes. Discover how to engage students with research-based practices that illustrate why note-taking matters. Designs will include practices in visual note-taking strategies and guided notes to increase learning retention. Templates applying Google apps will be shared to guide students with words, diagrams, and pictures to encode information to better absorb content knowledge.

Google Classroom helps easily organize the workflow of a blended learning environment. Students can complete assignments, collaborate on projects, and access classroom materials anytime. Google Classroom can help teachers create a student-centered, self-paced environment for students of all ages, as well as organize calendars, student projects, resources, and individual or group assignments. This course outlines the basic principles of setting up and utilizing the features of Google Classroom in a variety of settings.

Digital Breakout with Google Tools
1/22/2019 | 9am – 2:30pm

Bring the “Escape Room” strategy to the classroom for all ages and content areas. Explore ways to align activities with your curriculum while building grit and resilience in students. Participants use teamwork and critical thinking to solve a series of challenging puzzles and discover passwords to the next clue or step. Participants will learn how to use Google Forms, Google Sites and Google Docs to create that same “Escape Room” experience.

Osmo is an innovative device that transforms the iPad into an interactive classroom accessory that will add a level of excitement and engage students in the learning process.
