Olde Towne East grew out of one of Columbus’ oldest neighborhoods. Barons of industry and business built their dream houses in the neighborhoods. After a period of decline, the neighborhood is experiencing a resurgence.

Some cities like Columbus have reversed the trend of suburbanization through efforts at revitalizing historic urban neighborhoods. -
The development of the streetcar made it possible for these middle-class residents to move away from the industrial neighborhoods and form suburbs from which they could commute to their jobs in the city.
